Based in Roswell, Georgia, Tripwire Interactive is an entertainment software developer and publisher founded in 2005 by the award-winning mod team and winners of the 2004 edition of the “$1,000,000 Make Something Unreal” competition.
Tripwire Interactive operates out of Roswell, Georgia and has been active since 2006. The studio started as a mod team that won a major competition in 2004 before launching their first commercial titles in the late 2000s. Their output grew from just three games in the 2000s to ten titles during the 2010s. This number jumped again in the 2020s, where they released fifteen games. The company now lists 28 total entries on PlayPile, acting as a publisher for 25 of them and developing 11 directly. Their catalog is heavily focused on shooter games, with 17 titles falling into that category. They also have a strong presence in the indie genre with 14 games. Tactical shooters make up another significant portion with 10 entries. The studio reaches almost all major platforms, releasing 25 versions for PC Microsoft Windows and 14 for PlayStation 5. Xbox Series X|S supports 13 of their games, while older consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One host 9 and 8 releases respectively. They also support Linux, Mac, Nintendo Switch, and VR hardware like PlayStation VR and Oculus. Quality control has been a consistent strength for Tripwire Interactive. Their average rating across 15 evaluated titles sits at 72.5 out of 100. The breakdown shows no poor or mixed games in their tracked history. They have two great titles rated 80 or higher and 13 good titles scoring between 60 and 79. Chivalry 2 holds the highest spot with an 83 rating, followed closely by Deceive Inc at 82. Dwarfs! from 2011 also scored very well at 79.6. Killing Floor 2 remains a solid entry with a 76.8 score. The studio is planning several new releases to keep their schedule full. Killing Floor III launches in July 2025 with multiple editions including a Deluxe and Day One version, though the base game currently holds a 67 rating. They also have Norse: Oath of Blood scheduled for February 2026. While they maintain a steady stream of content across many genres, their focus remains firmly on action-heavy gameplay rather than strategy or role-playing games, which make up only a small fraction of their total library.
