In April of 1993, JVC subdivisions Victor Musical Industries and Nihon AVC merged together to form Victor Entertainment. Victor Entertainment is a subsidiary of JVCKenwood that produces and distributes music, movies and other entertainment products such as anime and television shows in Japan. It is known as JVC Entertainment in countries where Sony Music Entertainment operates the RCA Victor label. In October 1st, 1996 Pack-In-Video would be merged into Victor Entertainment temporarily taking over most video game ventures under the Victor Interactive Software, Inc. label; at times it would use Pack-In-Soft as an alias. In Mar 31, 2003 Marvelous Interactive acquired Victor Interactive Software, becoming Marvelous Entertainment. After 2003 Victor Entertainment returned to regular game publishing activities. As of 2024, they are still active as a label.
Victor Entertainment operates as a Japanese publisher and developer that has been active since the early 1990s. The company was formed in April 1993 through the merger of Victor Musical Industries and Nihon AVC. Later in its history, it absorbed Pack-In-Video in 1996 before Marvelous Interactive acquired its game division in March 2003. Despite this change in ownership, Victor Entertainment returned to publishing games after 2003 and remains active as a label through 2024. They have released a total of 16 titles on PlayPile, serving as both publisher and developer for these entries. Their catalog spans from the 1990s into the 2020s, though their output has slowed significantly over time. The company published nine games in the 1990s, four in the 2000s, only one in the 2010s, and two in the 2020s. This decline in volume is evident when comparing their early years to recent releases like Tokyo Revengers: Last Mission in November 2024 or Cardcaptor Sakura: Repaint Record from October 2020. The platform reach has also shifted with the industry, starting with legacy systems like Sega Saturn and PlayStation in the 1990s and moving toward mobile platforms such as iOS and Android in recent years. The genres they cover are quite varied but lean heavily toward simulation and sports. Their list includes four simulator titles and four sport games, alongside three role-playing games and three puzzle games. Other genres represented include visual novels, adventure, shooter, strategy, point-and-click, and fighting games. However, the quality of their work does not match the breadth of their genre selection. The average IGDB rating across two rated titles is 54.5 out of 100. All four available ratings fall into the mixed category between 40 and 59. There are no great or good scores on record for this publisher. Their highest-rated entry is Dungeon Master II: The Legend of Skullkeep from 1994 with a score of 59, followed by Castles II: Siege & Conquest from 1992 at 50. While the company has maintained a presence for over three decades, the low ratings suggest their games have not resonated strongly with critics or players who track these metrics.
