Victor Interactive Software, Inc. (株式会社ビクターインタラクティブソフトウェア, Kabushiki-gaisha Bikutā Intarakutibu Sofutouea) was a Japanese video game software publisher and developer, established on October 1, 1996 as a division of Victor Entertainment. Some of their games used the Pack-In-Soft (パック・イン・ソフト, Pakku-In-Sofuto) brand to keep the brand familiarity. On March 31, 2003, Victor Interactive Software was acquired by Marvelous Entertainment and became Marvelous Interactive, which was merged into Marvelous Entertainment in June 2007.
Victor Interactive Software operated as a Japanese publisher and developer from 1990 until its acquisition in 2003. Founded on October 1, 1996, as a division of Victor Entertainment, the company released 56 games listed on PlayPile. They acted as a publisher for 42 titles and developed 16 projects directly. Their catalog spans three platforms from the Super Famicom era through the PlayStation Portable, with the PlayStation family dominating their output. They released 20 games on the original PlayStation, followed by 10 on the PlayStation 3, 9 on the PSP, and 8 on the PlayStation 2. Other hardware like the Game Boy Color and Super Famicom saw 6 releases each during their active years. The company focused heavily on specific genres over its thirteen-year run. Role-playing games led their list with 19 titles, while simulators accounted for 18 releases. Sports games made up 12 entries, and they also produced adventure, strategy, racing, puzzle, visual novel, shooter, and platform titles. Their output shifted slightly between decades as well. The 1990s saw 35 games released, whereas the 2000s had 21 titles. Some of their later works appeared under the Pack-In-Soft brand to maintain name recognition for players familiar with their earlier software. Quality trends in their catalog show generally strong results across the limited number of rated entries. Out of nine games with scores on IGDB, five achieved great ratings above 80 points, and three landed in the good range between 60 and 79. Only one title received a mixed score below 60, and there were no poor-rated games in this dataset. Their highest-scoring release was Harvest Moon 2 GBC from 1999 at 89.7 points. Harvest Moon: Back to Nature followed with an 85.5 rating, and Flower, Sun, and Rain earned 80.5 points in 2001. Choplifter III also scored well with 80.3 points in 1994. The company released recent titles like Reel Fishing III in October 2003 and Inaka Kurashi: Nan no Shima no Monogatari in September 2002 before ceasing operations under this name. On March 31, 2003, Victor Interactive Software was acquired by Marvelous Entertainment and renamed Marvelous Interactive. This entity later merged back into the parent company in June 2007. Their final years focused on simulation and adventure games, but they did not release as many titles after 2000 compared to their peak in the 1990s.
