ZA/UM was an independent game development studio founded in 2016 by Estonian novelist Robert Kurvitz in Tallinn, Estonia, to develop Disco Elysium based in the same universe as his 2013 novel, Sacred and Terrible Air, which in turn is based upon a pen-and-paper role-playing game world he had written. In 2022, the Kurvitz and several other key members of the original team separated from the company under contentious circumstances, legal disputes, and allegations of fraud revolving around actions taken by holding company Tütreke OÜ after it sought and acquired majority interest in the company in 2021. The company has since retained the Disco Elysium IP and started and canceled several projects around it. It is now reported as being headquartered in London, England.
