Ex-competitive player turned writer. If a game has a ranked mode, I've probably grinded it. I write about what's worth your sweat.

No hosts. No ads. Just games. The Triple-I Initiative returns for its third year on April 9, and if you care about independent games at all, this is the stream to watch.
Organized by Evil Empire, the studio behind Castlevania: Belmont's Curse and The Rogue Prince of Persia, the showcase promises 45 minutes of back-to-back trailers featuring over 40 games. Eight world premieres are confirmed. The format strips away everything except the games themselves, and that focus has made Triple-I one of the more refreshing showcases on the calendar.
When and Where to Watch
The Triple-I Initiative 2026 airs on April 9 at:
- 9:00 AM Pacific (Los Angeles)
- 12:00 PM Eastern (New York)
- 5:00 PM GMT (London)
- 6:00 PM CET (Berlin, Paris)
The stream will be available on YouTube and Twitch. Past showcases have stayed commercial-free and host-free, letting the trailers speak for themselves.
Confirmed Publishers
The publisher list reads like a greatest hits of indie gaming:
- Devolver Digital (Inscryption, Death's Door, Cult of the Lamb)
- Klei Entertainment (Don't Starve, Oxygen Not Included)
- tinyBuild (Hello Neighbor, Graveyard Keeper)
- sunset visitor (1000xRESIST)
- Black Tabby Games (Slay the Princess)
Each of these publishers has a track record of backing games that stand out. Whatever they show, it won't be generic.
Games Already Confirmed
Risk of Rain 2
The roguelike shooter that defined a generation of co-op runs will have a presence. Whether this means new content, a major update, or something else entirely remains to be seen. Gearbox now owns the IP following their acquisition of Hopoo Games' catalog, so this could signal the game's next chapter.
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse
Evil Empire's Castlevania roguelike has been one of the most anticipated indie projects since its announcement. The studio proved they understand action-roguelikes with Dead Cells and The Rogue Prince of Persia. Bringing that expertise to the Castlevania universe has fans expecting something special.
Windrose
A seafaring adventure that turned heads during Steam Next Fest. The demo impressed players with its sailing mechanics and hand-painted art style. Expect a release window or extended gameplay.
Dead as Disco
Details are sparse, but the name alone suggests personality. Triple-I has a history of spotlighting games with distinctive identities.
Alkahest
Another confirmed title we'll learn more about during the showcase. The name suggests something alchemical, possibly fantasy-adjacent.
What to Watch For
sunset visitor's Next Game
The studio behind 1000xRESIST, one of 2024's most acclaimed narrative games, is teasing something new. Director Remy Siu posted "expect the unexpected" ahead of the showcase. Given that 1000xRESIST earned a 9/10 from IGN and appeared on numerous Game of the Year lists, whatever sunset visitor shows next will have attention.
Slay the Princess Developer Black Tabby Games
The psychological horror visual novel earned a dedicated following for its branching narrative and unsettling atmosphere. Black Tabby's presence suggests they have something to announce, whether it's new Slay the Princess content or an entirely new project.
Eight World Premieres
Triple-I confirmed eight games will be revealed for the first time during the showcase. With publishers like Devolver Digital and Klei Entertainment involved, at least some of these could be significant announcements.
Why Triple-I Works
The showcase earns its audience by respecting their time. No celebrity hosts making awkward jokes. No advertisements between trailers. No 10-minute segments about mobile games nobody asked for. Just 45 minutes of games, one after another.
Evil Empire started Triple-I as a platform for independent studios to share the spotlight. The initiative has grown each year, attracting bigger names while maintaining its grassroots energy. It's proof that showcases don't need massive budgets or corporate backing to matter.
