Capcom Production Studio 2 is the second of Capcom's internal development studios (five in total). Production Studio 2 has developed games in many of Capcom's popular franchises, including Mega Man Battle Network, Mega Man Zero, Onimusha, Street Fighter, and Mega Man Star Force.
Capcom Production Studio 2 operated as one of the five internal development divisions for the Japanese publisher Capcom. The team was active from 1997 until 2019 and created 21 games on PlayPile without publishing any titles under its own name. Their output followed a clear growth pattern over two decades. They released only three titles in the 1990s before ramping up to 16 games during the 2000s. The studio slowed significantly in the 2010s with just two releases. This shift suggests the group focused heavily on the first decade of their existence and then scaled back operations. The genre focus for this developer leaned heavily toward Adventure, which accounted for ten projects. They also worked extensively on Role-playing games with eight titles and Tactical games with six entries. Real Time Strategy and Hack and slash or Beat 'em up games each made up six and five projects respectively. Their platform strategy targeted handheld systems first, with seven games on the Game Boy Advance. The PlayStation 2 and PC followed as major targets with six and five releases. They also supported the original PlayStation, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Portable to varying degrees. Quality trends show a generally solid track record across their 18 rated titles. The average score sits at 76.7 out of 100. Five games achieved great ratings above 80, while twelve others fell into the good range between 60 and 79. There was only one mixed title below 60 and no poor games in their catalog. Their highest-rated work includes Mega Man Battle Network 3 White, which scored 88.8, and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike at 86.2. Onimusha 3: Demon Siege and Mega Man Legends 2 also received strong scores above 80. Recent activity shows a return to legacy franchises with mixed results. Onimura Warlords released in January 2019 scored 78.2, maintaining their standard of quality. Earlier in 2006, they released two entries for Mega Man Battle Network 6 and an Onimusha sequel that received scores between 71.9 and 79.4. These numbers indicate the studio maintained consistent performance even as their release frequency dropped in later years. They specialized in established franchises rather than creating new ones from scratch.
