EA Canada at a Glance

EA Canada, operating out of Burnaby, has been a significant force in game development since 1993. The studio released 118 titles during its active run from the early 1990s through 2021. While they have published zero games under their own name on PlayPile, they served as the primary developer for all 118 entries listed. Their output peaked heavily in the 2000s with 65 releases, followed by 35 titles in the 2010s. The 1990s saw 16 games, and only a single release appeared in the 2020s before the studio's activity slowed significantly. The company focuses almost entirely on sports simulations. Out of their total catalog, 109 games fall into the Sport category. They also produced 39 Simulator titles and 12 Racing games. Other genres like Fighting, Puzzle, Strategy, Shooter, Adventure, Platform, and Arcade make up a very small fraction of their work. This specialization is evident in their platform support. The studio developed primarily for older generation consoles, with 47 games for the Xbox 360, 43 for PC, 42 for PlayStation 3, and 41 for PlayStation 2. Their presence on modern hardware like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One remains minimal with only 13 games each. Quality results vary across their long history. The average IGDB rating stands at 74 out of 100 based on 107 rated titles. Most of their work lands in the good range, with 72 titles scoring between 60 and 79. They have achieved great status with 30 games that scored above 80. However, they also have three mixed titles and two poor ones under 40. Their highest-rated works include NHL 96 from 1995 with a score of 95.7, followed by SSX 3 and MVP Baseball 2005 both at 89.6. More recent entries show a dip in scores. FIFA 22: Ultimate Edition arrived in September 2021, while NHL 19 scored 77.4 in 2018. EA Sports UFC 3 received a 71.6 rating upon release in February 2018. The data indicates a shift from high acclaim in the 1990s and early 2000s to more consistent but lower scores in their later years of operation.
