Gradiente is a Brazilian consumer electronics company founded in 1964 and based in São Paulo. The company designs and markets many product lines, including video (including televisions and DVD players), audio, home theatre, high-end acoustics, office and mobile stereo, and wireless. In late 1983, via their subsidiary Polyvox, they launched the official Atari 2600 in Brazil (Vader model). At the time there were already clones or imported 2600s being sold. In 1993 they founded Playtronic, a fully-owned subsidiary that licensed the manufacturing of Nintendo consoles in Brazil, and while publishing games for various systems they also did the Portuguese translations of some games (among them, South Park and Shadow Man for the Nintendo 64). They ceased partnership with Nintendo in 2003 due to the high price of the dollar at the time. Before 1993, they were unlicensed and sold the NES clone Phantom System, which resembles the Atari 7800.
Gradiente is a Brazilian electronics firm founded in 1964 that entered the video game market as a publisher rather than a developer. The company released 19 titles between 1988 and 2001, with all of them appearing under their publishing arm. Their catalog shows a strong preference for handheld consoles, particularly the Game Boy Color with six releases, followed by the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 64 with five games each. The company also released three titles for the original Game Boy, PC, and NES. While they focused heavily on Nintendo platforms, their reach extended to PlayStation, Linux, and Mac with just one title apiece. The company operated at a steady pace through the late eighties and early nineties before hitting their peak output in the 1990s with ten games. The following decade saw six more releases before they stopped publishing in 2001. Their genre portfolio is broad, covering eight platformers, six adventures, four turn-based strategy games, and smaller numbers of RPGs, puzzles, shooters, and simulators. This variety suggests an effort to find hits across different styles rather than sticking to a single niche. Quality for Gradiente is mixed but leans toward the positive side of average. The average IGDB rating sits at 69.7 out of 100 based on twelve rated titles. Five games scored in the great range above 80, while another five landed in the good range between 60 and 79. One title received a mixed score and another fell below 40. Their highest-rated work includes Pokémon Gold Version at 87.2, Mole Mania at 82.4, and Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition at 81.4. Later releases like Pikmin and Super Mario World also scored well in the early 2000s. Gradiente started as a maker of consumer electronics before launching the Atari 2600 in Brazil via their subsidiary Polyvox in 1983. They later formed Playtronic in 1993 to manufacture Nintendo consoles locally and publish games. This partnership allowed them to distribute Portuguese translations of titles like South Park and Shadow Man for the N64. The company ended its relationship with Nintendo in 2003 due to currency issues, though their publishing activities had already slowed down by then. Before 1993, they sold unlicensed NES clones under the Phantom System name. Their history reflects a local electronics giant trying to capitalize on the console market during a specific window of time.
