Traveller's Tales was founded in 1989 by Jon Burton. Initially a small company focused on its own content, it grew in profile through developing games with larger companies such as Sega and Disney Interactive Studios. In 2004, development on Lego Star Wars: The Video Game started with publisher Giant Interactive Entertainment, and, the following year Traveller's Tales purchased and merged with Giant Interactive Entertainment, forming TT Games. From that point, Traveller's Tales served as the company's development branch, while Giant Interactive Entertainment became TT Games Publishing, the publishing branch. In 2007, the company acquired another developer and an animation studio, which became TT Fusion and TT Animation. On 8 November 2007, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced that they had purchased TT Games for an undisclosed amount as part of their expansion into the video game industry
Traveller's Tales has been operating since 1989 in the United Kingdom with a focus on development rather than publishing. The studio currently holds 59 titles on PlayPile, all developed by them, spanning from the early 1990s through projections into 2026. Their catalog covers a wide range of genres, though Adventure games appear most frequently with 39 entries. Platformers follow closely with 32 releases, while Puzzle games account for 24 titles. Other genres like Racing and Shooters make up a small fraction of their output. They have released games across many systems, with PC being the dominant platform at 37 titles. Consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 also see significant presence with 21 and 19 releases respectively. The quality of their work varies considerably over time. Across 46 rated titles, the average score sits at 67.7 out of 100. The majority of their games fall into the good range between 60 and 79. Only three titles have achieved great ratings above 80, while nine others received mixed scores below 60. No titles have been rated as poor. Their highest-rated games include Mickey Mania from 1994 at 80.8, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes from 2013 at 81.7, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga from 2022 at 81.4. These top entries are all part of their long-running LEGO series, which also includes LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game and LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 in the high 70s. Their output has grown steadily over the decades. They released 13 games in the 1990s and 17 during the 2000s. Production increased further in the 2010s with 23 titles, while only four games are listed for the 2020s so far. The company expanded significantly in 2004 when they began work on a LEGO Star Wars title and later merged with Giant Interactive Entertainment to form TT Games. Warner Bros. acquired this entity in 2007. Recent releases show a continued focus on franchise titles, including updates for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and an upcoming entry titled LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight scheduled for May 2026.
