Infogrames at a Glance

If you are browsing PlayPile looking for a publisher with deep historical roots, Infogrames is a French company founded in 1983 that operated until 2018. They released 196 games on this platform, acting as the publisher for 175 of them and developing 50 directly. Their catalog spans nearly every major system from the late 1980s through the mid-2000s. PC Microsoft Windows was their primary home with 94 titles, followed by DOS with 37 games and PlayStation with 31 releases. They also supported older systems like the Atari ST, Amiga, and Commodore C64, showing a broad reach across different eras of hardware. The company saw its output grow steadily over time. They published 26 games in the 1980s and increased that to 63 in the 1990s. The 2000s were their most productive decade with 103 releases, though activity dropped sharply to just one game in the 2010s. Their genre focus was wide, with Adventure games leading at 52 titles, followed by Racing and Sport games which each had 32 or more entries. They also made a significant number of Platformers, Strategy games, and Shooters. Quality across their portfolio is generally average to good. The average IGDB rating for 70 of their rated titles sits at 67 out of 100. Most of their work falls into the good category with 45 entries scoring between 60 and 79. Only a small fraction reached the great tier, with just 10 titles scoring 80 or higher. They did have some poor releases, as three games scored below 40. Their highest-rated title is Outcast from 1999, which holds an 88 score. Other strong entries include NASCAR: Dirt to Daytona and Unreal Tournament 2003, both scoring above 83. In recent years, their focus shifted toward children's content before they ceased operations. Releases in the early 2000s included Blue's Clues Kindergarten and The Saddle Club titles. By February 2018, their last listed release was Marco Polo. The company changed its name to Atari SA in 2009 after renaming itself following the acquisition of Atari Inc. This transition marked a shift from being known simply as Infogrames to operating under the Atari brand for the remainder of their history.
