Masaya is a Japanese video game brand, initially established by Japanese entertainment company NCS Corporation, Nippon Computer Systems, in 1984 for taking part in the video game market. Masaya at a Glance

If you are browsing PlayPile to find a Japanese publisher with deep roots in classic gaming, Masaya is a name that appears frequently in the archives of the late twentieth century. Founded in 1984 by Nippon Computer Systems and its parent company NCS Corporation, this brand produced 38 titles on our platform. Their output was heavily concentrated in the 1990s, with 34 games released during that decade compared to just four in the 1980s. The company became inactive after 1999, though its copyrights eventually moved to Extreme Co., LTD. in 2014. The catalog shows a clear preference for action-oriented genres. Shooter games make up the largest portion of their library with nine entries, followed closely by fighting games at seven titles. They also released six platformers, five arcade games, and five adventure titles. You will find most of these on the Super Famicom, which features 12 games in their collection. The Wii follows with ten releases, while the Turbografx-16 and PC Engine CD each hold nine titles. Their presence extends to other systems like the Sega Mega Drive and PlayStation Portable, but the vast majority of their work belongs to the console era of the late eighties and nineties. Quality across their known titles leans toward the average. The average IGDB rating stands at 67.8 out of 100 based on six rated games. There are no great titles in the 80-plus range, but they have a solid block of good games scoring between 60 and 79. One title falls into the mixed category. Battletoads remains their highest-rated game at 76.2, followed by Assault Suit Leynos 2 at 70.9. Target Earth and Ranma 1/2: Hard Battle also sit comfortably in the good range above 65. Recent releases from their final years include Langrisser Millennium and Assault Suits Valken 2. If you are looking for a publisher that delivered consistent mid-tier action games during the peak of the SNES and Mega Drive eras, Masaya fits that description without much fanfare.
