Japan Founded 2020 Website

As one of the leading interactive entertainment companies, SEGA cultivates creative talent worldwide with offices in America, Japan and our European HQ in London. Our acclaimed UK based studios include Sports Interactive and The Creative Assembly who are responsible for award-winning titles and iconic franchises such as Football Manager, Aliens, and the Total War series. Hardlight, the newest UK studio in the SEGA family, are the talented team behind Sonic the Hedgehog's latest adventures on mobile platforms Sonic Jump and Sonic Dash. SEGA's much loved blue hedgehog mascot is a true global brand crossing over from video games into toys, stationary, apparel and much more. SEGA is growing and has recently completed an acquisition of Canada based Relic Entertainment Studio, famed for high quality strategy games including “Warhammer 40k Dawn of War” and the “Company of Heroes” series. We are determined to set new standards in interactive entertainment and are excited by the opportunity of welcoming such a talented development studio into the SEGA family.

Sega at a Glance

Sega is a Japanese publisher with a massive footprint in the industry, having released 1046 titles on PlayPile since it first appeared in 1977. The company has been active for nearly five decades and shows no sign of slowing down, with output reaching its peak in the 2000s when they released 350 games. Their catalog spans from just six games in the 1970s to 43 in the 1980s before exploding to 291 titles in the 1990s. While their release count dropped to 166 in the 2010s, they returned to high volume with 155 games in the 2020s alone. They operate across many genres but focus heavily on Adventure, Arcade, and Role-playing games. The company has a strong history on arcade hardware, which remains their most common platform with 255 games. PC is a close second with 228 titles, followed by various PlayStation consoles and the Dreamcast. Their average rating across 390 rated titles sits at 71.8 out of 100. This score reflects a mix of quality where 109 games are considered great and 223 are good. However, there are also 49 mixed titles and nine poor ones in their history. You will find some of their highest rated work in fighting games like Melty Blood Act Cadenza Ver. B and RPGs such as Persona 5 Royal. Arcade classics like Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram and sports titles like ESPN NFL 2K5 also carry strong scores. Recent activity shows they are still producing content with releases planned for early 2026 including Yakuza Kiwami 3, Dark Ties, and Sega Football Club Champions. Their bio notes that they own studios in America, Japan, and the UK, including Sports Interactive and The Creative Assembly, who make award-winning strategy games like Total War and Football Manager. They also acquired Relic Entertainment to bolster their portfolio of high-quality strategy games such as Warhammer 40k Dawn of War. Sega continues to expand its reach beyond just video games into merchandise, though their core output remains a large volume of software across many different systems and eras.
